Celebrating the end of a wonderful community project. 

Yes, after 6 fun filled months full of filming, The Vision Project - Creative Connections is now over for another year. 

I have loved being part of this multi-arts project funded by Arts Council England. I firmly believe in beauty and my experiences have led me to know that art of all forms is beneficial for mental health and life purpose. Arts Council England fund artistic projects all over the country - they are the national development agency for creativity and culture. 

This project this year has led me to see that people benefit from connecting with themselves through art be it music, song, dance or art. Having a community who participate in this way with the same purpose really elevates each persons experience.

Creating Safe Spaces 

Each artistic element of the project has had a mental health counsellor involved which has provided a safe space for people to participate in. Should they need to take a moment to talk to someone as issues arise - and they almost always do - it really helps. Art and play allows us to be as humans, something that often we feel we can no longer do once we “grow up.” Many feelings can arise and having a community who can share and air their issues (should they want to) is life changing. 

I have been honoured to participate as part of the community as well as creating content. With a chronic condition, (Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) there have been times when I have been in so much pain that I can feel only anger and frustration. Creating art together with the artists or watching dance chreopgarphy unfold in front of me has helped give me purpose, provide me with a safe happy place. Watching beauty being created is the most joyous feeling.

Creating Content for Contentment 

For this project I worked on a wide number of creative elements. From updating the website, to idea generation, social media graphics, event coordination, interviews, social media filming and content, voiceovers, creative input and so much more.

Each piece created has to carry a feeling, a word, a purpose. The Vision Project has all been about Creation, Community, Connection. I love the trio here as it really sums up what the project was all about. With over 100 people connected through the various art projects, everyone feels part of the bigger picture. And I love me some big picture beauty!

I find so much purpose and pleasure in working with like minded individuals and teams that create beauty, for their community. This is about being human, being authentic, being fearless in the face of fear. Together we can achieve personal bests!

In Q2 2023 it became clear that I am a Hyper Sensitive Person. Firstly, being an over achiever of course I loved having hyper as a label. But what exactly is HSP? Well it is the latest personality description of someone that is moved by art, music, is sensitive to colours, noises, people, places. Check out this Guardian article outlining this personality. 

Those that know me in real life know that I am affected soooo much by so many different things, everything from the wind creating goosebumps on my skin on a sunny day to feeling your emotions when we connect. Watching a documentary about animals, I'll be in tears. Walking thorugh the art gallieries in Barcleona, Paris and London, I feel the colours and textures and I feel all the people around me. All types of music send me into a heady spin and today l've listened to Classic, trance, pop music and I'll connect with them in so many ways. What do all these things have in common? These things all arouse me - now now before you get all bombastic side eye about that word, wind your mind in. They do arouse me though.  They arouse my creative passions, my purposeful passions, my intellectual passions, and let's face it, yep all those other scrummy passions we all have. If I'm not careful they can overwhelm me and send me into a cascade of activity, which is actually quite the rollercoaster. 

Why does my HSP make my connect so creatively spot on? 

It is beause I feel so much, feel so big with these emotions from all these external influences that my mind can quickly connect the dots and paint a huge watercolour big picutre. It is like having a melange of Monet's massive waterlillies painting also with that Minority Report screen. I'll be honest though, I don't know how it works, it just does. Like breathing, it happens, all in my mind. 

It makes my content so amazing because I feel my clients and their work. I can feel fashion shows, I can smell each can of hairspray even now, 20 years on. I can still see the models face as the make up dabs foundation on, I can still taste the sandwhiches laid out for everyone. (side note, I ate a lot of them!). To do what I do, I have to feel, I have to know you, I have to breathe you all in and take your values, your brand colours, your vibe and then I can throw colour onto my mind canvas and VOILA, content that will connect to your community. 

Being a super power of purpose

When you are truly working and living your values and purpose then my super power is that I can plug in and make a lightshow explode. But the key thing here is that we have to a) connect and b) there has to be a greater purpose to work on. Maybe it is a product or service that connects a community, maybe the purpose is to highlight the creativity in the world. Ultimately I will know if you are working and living your dreams - if not, then we will not be working together.

How do I work with this super power? 

With this super power, I can bring ideas, colours, feelings down onto paper, articulate them all so that I can help you acquire your customers, clients and community. What’s the feeling that you want to pin down like a butterfly, like smoke from the ether, and make tangible? Make real? Then I will go out and await as the ideas come to me, filling my mind. And after all you want to pin down that feeling. Why? Because why do any of us do anything? For a feeling, to fulfill a need and after 20+ years of marketing, comms and content creation, all we want the human need for connection and however that might work out for us personally. 

How long have I had this super power for?

Forever.  It has been over 40 years that I have brought this ability, this sight beyond sight, feelings so big and experiences so rich and varied that when I work with you, you know it comes with a desire so fierce it bites down hard. Today, I've managed to write two articles, make one reel, create x5 social media posts for clients and make one web page magazine. But that only happens because I can grab all the threads and pull them in such a way they knit themselves, I'm just the loom, making a beautiful textile full of rich and diverse texture. 

How do I take content to the next level?

Because I can. And because of something else my super power affords me. I’ve known for years now that I am the best cheerleader, I am the catalyst, I am the spark. I light the sparks so that you and your community burst into colour with connected creation. From Arts Council England funded creative projects to celebrating value added alliances anniversaries with over 70 companies globally, the ideas and creativity pours out of me and bursts like a bonfire night fireworks display. 

Am I extra?

Oh yes, I am extremely high maintance in all the ways. And the richness of the content I design and create will connect wonderfully with your communities. The question is are you basic? I know that my brain is stretchy and malleable, the nerons stitching more than Elasto-Girls limbs. From languages to concepts, all are melodies, waiting for me to sing along and stitch upon like a never ending tiktok. Also I have a slight tendancy to think in x3 languages which, yeah, the overlap of rhythms and sentance structures means I can do about 100 things at once but I only do that on projects if you are exceptionally special and I love you. 

When you dare to feel the full force in my superpower, buckle up for quite the ride. Let me take your hand and show you a whole new world. Just remember to bring your passport but where I’m gonna take you, there are no roads, only dreams made true!
